![]() ![]() Honestly Windows manages wireless networks natively just fine. I don't like the software provided, although I guess that's a standard thing to do nowadays. If you have a laptop, it will either block adjacent ports, or it will be annoying carrying the dock and adapter around. Luckily the dock makes it much more versatile, but I would say this adapter is more geared towards desktop use. Needs a USB 3.0 port to work to it's full potential. I have definitely found 5Ghz to have the most performance.Ĭons: Bigger than most USB wireless adapters. Luckily, this is perfect for apartments where the distance is not long but interference from the 2.4Ghz G and N bands are a problem. ![]() 5Ghz Wifi will be faster since there is less interference but because of the shorter wavelength, the wireless signal loses strength more quickly. In my case, I live in a dense apartment in the city so there is Wifi interference everywhere so things tend to slow down. There's no way you're going to reach speeds that fast in real life. Now, while these numbers may seem smaller than advertised, they are really quite good when you consider that the numbers are theoretical. It is quite fast given the right conditions- with a wireless N router I managed to reach around 130Mbps and around 250Mbps with an AC router. Included extension is very useful, makes it much better to use on a desktop (usually plugging things directly into the back of your tower will cause it to lose reception depending on where it is).
